BORG wheels hubs from rim brake bikes 

This hubset is for 2:1 lacing only. This is my own design.  This hub is made for reliable all weather riding and to maximise lateral stiffness/reduce brake rub with deeper rims. 

In the drop down menu you select the front hub and the rear seperately.

The hub is designed around NTN bearings. I offer contacting red seals (LLU), and non contacting (black) seal bearings (LLB). Above 5 or 6 mph air pressure start to increase in the bearing and forces the seals out. These means non contacting seals loose most/all of there contact which lowers drag but let's more water and grit in. Bearing life is therefore shorter than with the contacting seals but its by no means short either. NTN bearing seal are heavy touch i.e they higher static friction and finger turning speeds  this is nothing to worry about as the seals lift as speed increases. I have picked NTN over SKF or INA/FAG for this reason- there seals.

The contacting seals may feel stiff in your hand but feel less stiff after a couple hundred miles. Also when riding for the above reasons the seal drag lowers so you will never notice.

Time trailists, fair weather riders and friction weenies, though could pick the non contacting seals. Most people who just ride are better of with the contacting seals as these seals as bearing life is more important than savings a couple watts. 

Bearing life is long with NTN bearings. It's even longer with the contacting seals. Testing has shown aluminium rims wear out first with the contacting seals before the bearings do. That's not a guarantee mind. 

The hubs are made to the tight tolerances that NTN bearings provide therefore it is recommended that only NTN bearings are used in the these hub. No warranty is provided if other bearings are used. Genuine bearings should be sourced from either myself, Hambini or approved NTN bearing suppliers like Hayleys bearings. Too many of NTN bearing you find online are of unkown providence.

One drilling 20h front and 24h rear 16:8. 16 spokes drive side to be laced 3x only and 8 spokes non drive side to be laced radially. 

Let's start with the front hub. The flange spacing is 68mm from the centre of the flanges. The PCD is 38mm. The bearings used are 61901. The axle is aluminium alloy with a 12mm O.D. the end caps are screw on. All spares are available.

The rear hub is special. First the geometry. Centre left flange to centre distance is 49mm and centre right flange to centre of the hub is 16.4nm. Flange PCD is 54mm right and 44 cm left.

The main shell uses 2x 61902 bearings running on a 15mm O.D aluminium alloy axle. The freehub uses 4 pawls with leaf springs and a 36t ratchet ring. The freehub bearings are replaceable. Spare axles,  pawls, springs and end caps are available.

Campagnolo 9/10/11/12 speed , Shimano 8/9/10/11 speed and SRAM XDR 12 speed freehub bodies are offered. 

2:1 lacing is not for novice wheel builders. It requires rims that centre drilled (nipple bed and tape bed) or drilled for 2:1 lacing. 

BORG 26 rims are suitable as are are my BORG50C 2:1 drilled rims. Halo 16:8 drilled rims will also work. Carbon rims can be ordered from various suppliers drilled appropriately just specify the bracing angles. 

For spoke length calculation use 32h for the rear hub and 3.17 cross then subtracted 1.76mm. This will be the correct length for the DS rear spokes.

There are two lacing paterns for 2:1 hubs. One has the radial left spoke in between the two parallel spokes (near parallel anyway). The other has the two parrallel spoke adjacent to each other. The first pattern uses 3x for the drive side spokes for spoke lengths the other pattern uses a slightly different spoke length calculation (3.17x minus 1.76mm for this hubs DS flange diameter). The second pattern is what most people use and requires the DS spoke at the logo to be heads out. Heads in and your on the first pattern described. 

Most rims are drilled for the 2nd pattern if drilled for 2:1 lacing.

Rear hub geometry has been chosen to maximise lateral stiffness which helps create a more reliable wheel.

Orders placed in the afternoon normally get sent the next workday where possible. Orders placed before noon are often sent the same day but this is not guaranteed.

Same day disptach is not guaranteed due to volume of mail order. In general we are not operating with big delays in dispatch if any.

  • Standard shipping is with DHL. Cost is £6.00 . Fully tracked with hour delivery slots. 
  • Some U.K addresses excluded from he DPD service Royal Mail is used (1st class tracked). Checkout is not sophisicated enough to know all the excluded postcodes. The areas are Channel Islands, Isle of Wight, Isle of Man Scottlish Highlands and islands (Scottish Highlands - AB31-38, AB40-56, FK17-21, IV1-40, IV52-54, IV63, KW1-14, PA21-38, PH4-41,  PH49-50

  • Northen Island - Ropyal mail 1 st class signed for is used.
    • Rims are sent by courier only- cost £10. UPS is used. A phone number and email address must be supplied to allow me to book in. This service can also be picked for smaller items that you want delivered by UPS.
    • Wheels shipping cost is £20 (cost of courier + cost of the box) next day. To NI, Scottish Islands, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and that is a two day service.

    Overseas 

    Courier services are used only or over seas mail. UPS or parcel force depending on destination.

    The website will provide shipping rates at checkout.

    The import charges you will face are and these will be levied by the shipping carrier or by your customs authority in advance of delivery. Customs clearance will add to shipping times. 

    You will be billed for

    Import duties which are set by the tarrif code we declare. Tarrif rates are normally published on government websites. "Free trade agreements" affect this and for EU customers there are no duties as tarrifs are set at zero for goods like our wheels that originate in the U.K. Goods that originate in the E.U  and are exported back yo the E.U attract tarriffs. Good made outside the e.u and sold into the E.U attract tarrifs. The declared value in GDP will be converted to your countries currency by the monthly rate published by your tax authority. 

    Customs clearance fees -these vary from country to country and also vary by declared value in some juristictions. 

    VAT or sales taxes and applied to  the total of the declared value of goods, customs clearance charges and import duties. 

    This shop declares the total paid for the goods for customs value, no exceptions. We will not declare low values as thats fraud and we will not be party to it.

     A word of warning once an parcel has been shipped any import charges are your reponsibility. Refusal to pay these charges to the parcel carrier mean you loose the right to an automatic refund. We refund at our discretion minus any charges we are levied by the parcel carrier. These charges cannot be disputed by us. We also reserve the right to apply a 10% restocking fee on top of any charges applied to us for the return of the parcel. Therefore once shipped charges must be paid. We can accept no liability if the parcel is lost after charges have been refused to be paid.
