BORG22 Disc (Road/CX/Gravel) wheelset front and rear - 28 spoke

£367.00

The BORG22 disc brake wheelset is designed/built for high miles. Based around a rim from Kinlin and Miche, Bitex, Shimano or Carbon Ti hubs this wheelset deploys all the tricks to enable it to handle what ever roads you ride on for as long as you want to ride on them. They wheels are more than suitable for CX/gravel use too.

Weight limit is 100kg. Riders over 100kg there is another listing for 32 spoke version with brass nipples.

The wheels can be built for the Cannondale 6mm offset rear used in one of there CX bikes.

If you pick tyres let me know the tyre width you want in the notes at checkout or send an email.

Available with a choice of freehub Shimano 8/9/10/11 speed, campagnolo 9/10/11 speed or SRAM XD 11 speed drivers. Thru axle compatibility with 100x9mm, 100x12, 100x15, 135x10mm, 135x12mm and 142x12mm. Standard 100/135mm Q/R compatability too.

Let me know the axle standard you require in the notes at checkout.

Available in  28F/28R spoke count

Weight of the 28F/28R with Bitex B106F/106R 350 C/L Q/R hubs 1644g (thru axle version are lighter)

Weight of the 28F/28R with Miche 6 bolt hubs 1680g

Weight of 28/28R with Carbon Ti 6 bolts hubs is 1555g

Weight of 28F/28R wheelset with Shimano RS770 hubs is 1730g.

The rim is 435g in weight and is 19mm wide internally 24mm external width. It is 22mm deep and is tubeless ready (stan's rim tape is installed on every wheelset). Normal clinchers can be run of course. The rim is an offset for the front and rear design which means improved spoke tension balance. This one trick to extend spoke life.

I build these wheels with a variety of hubs. To make picking the hub simple decide if you require 6 bolt or centrelock rotor fitting, then if you want a steel freehub (that means a shimano hub) then pick based on what axle standard you need. These are all good reliable hubs.

The spoke and nipples are the last trick. Black Sapim Force triple butted 2.0/1.8/2.2mm (at the elbow where it matters) give long service life. The elbow being 2.2mm in diameter has 21% more cross sectional area than a sapim race or DT Swiss Competition spoke. This means 28 spoke wheels have the spoke life of a 32 spoke wheel. What is not to like about that? The nipples uses black Sapim alloy self locking nipples. The nipples can be easily turned with a spoke key but won't vibrate loose by themselves. Sapim alloy nipples don't break used thousands now and never had one break yet- so don't worry.

So in short this wheelset uses all the tricks I know to create a stiff reasonably light but robust wheelset that will give you smiles for miles. I deploy all the tricks as tubeless tyres compress tubeless compatible rims (tight fitting standard clinchers do too) and this cause a significant tension drop that must be accounted for when building the wheel. I cannot raise the tension as some tyres cause a bigger drop than others. So tricks to improve tension balance and extend spoke life are a better way of creating a reliable wheel for all riders regardless of the tyres they choose to fit.
