The BORG31 light is a lighter version of the BORG31. The wheelset is very stiff and based on a wide rim which is perfect for all weather training use, road racing or CX use.
The rim is;
- 31mm deep,
- 24mm wide
- 19mm internal width (It's a kinlin XR31T).
- The rear rim is offset (asymmetric 3mm)
The asymmetric rear rim increases non drive spoke tension. This is useful way of increasing spoke life. These wheels are very stiff but are comfortable. They will provide secure handling and you will enjoy them. The Cycle Clinic recommends you pick on of the IRC tubeless tyres which we will fit for you and provide all the guidance and support you need to start using tubeless tyres. These tyres could outlast the rims they are that good and yet provide the secure handling and comfort you want.
There are two options
- 20/24R with Carbon Ti hubs weight limit 100kg
- 18F/24R with Miche SWR hubs weight limit 100kg
There geometry difference between the two hubsets. The Carbon Ti hubs have normal rear hub dimensions but very wide flange spacing for the front leading to a very stiff front wheel. The Miche SWR hubs have normal front dimensions but the rear hub has the non drive side flange further out. This means the rear wheel is very stiff (50% higher vs the carbon Ti hub). The non drive side spoke tension is lower but given the offset rim it is still more than higher enough to retain long term reliability. That does not mean the wheel with the miche hub is better, both wheels are stiff and both wheels have desirable characteristics.
The spokes used for options are black straight pull Sapim Cx-ray for the front and rear wheel 2.0mm(0.9/2.2)mm/2.0mm and with black alloy SILS (self locking nipples). A corrosion inhibitor is used to stop the nipples seizing and this prevents failure. Spoke nipple washers are also used. Lacing is radial front and non drive side rear. Drive side rear is laced 2x.
The Miche hubs have a 17mm aluminium alloy axle rear and 12mm alloy axle for the front hub. and big bearings they are very reliable hubs. Freehubs are easily swapped between Campagnolo and Shimano. Freehub bodies are cheap and available from The Cycle Clinic (if fact all hub spares are). Freehubs are 9/10/11 speed compatible (shimano freehubs will take a 8 speed cassette). Miche hubs use a simple bearing preload system with a locking collar for easy adjustment.
Carbon Ti hubs are an Italian weight weenie masterpiece. There design is simple. 17mm alloy axles front and rear, 1x 6903 and 3x 6803 bearings, bearing preload adjustment and a robust 4 pawl freehub body. Even though these hubs weight 224g for the pair they are proving themselves to be reliable.
Simply a reliable wheelset for all weathers and combined with IRC tubeless tyres in four versions it maybe the only
