Road disc brakes are the future.

Posted by Francis Borg
disc brake for road bikes are definatley the future. So as my wife's birthday is today I though I would build her a bike that is as good as it gets. The frame is a OEM frame that is quite light at 1060g. The bike is built up with Shimano R785 hydraulic brakes/STI's with Di2. The routing is internal and ultegra 6870 is used. The wheels are built by my hand with DT swiss 240 straight pull 28 spoke hubs on 38mm carbon tubular rims with no brake track. The spokes are DT Swiss Competition and they have been laced 3x. Wheelset wight is under 1400g. The rotors uses are XTR 160mm front and rear. Pro Evo Stealth bars have been fitted. The tyres are Continental GP4000 tubular. Total weight of this rather spectacular setup is 7.6kg hardly heavy and cheaper than trek's new Domane with these brakes. I am sure the wheels I have built are superior as well. The tyre clearance on this frame is huge, 27mm tyres will fit no problem which means the next tubs might be Vittoria Pave's or Challange Roubaix.
