Ridea hubs new!

Posted by Malcolm Borg

Well I have finally got round to doing a build report on these hubs. They arrived with the Big Mama distribution earlier this year and I bought a couple of sets. I am pricing them at £220 for a pair.

The rear hub use 6802 bearings in the rear shell and two bigger bearings in the freehub. the freehub is shimano 11 speed compatible. The hub uses a stiff 15mm alloy axle. The freehub has 72 points of engagement which is more than needed but hey ho it makes a nice sound. The hub dimensions are not traditional. Rear DS flange is 55mm PCD which is nice and the NDS flange PCD is 44mm. The DS centre flange to centre hub spacing is 17mm but the NDS flange to centre is 44mm. This for most rims is too far outboard as it lowers NDS spoke tension below what is acceptable. However four rims only three of which I use are available in offset drilling. the DT Swiss RR440, Ryde Pulse Sprint and Ryde Pulse Comp (the other being the velocity A23) increase NDS spoke tension so making the hubs more than useable.

With the Ryde pulse sprint rims a 1300g wheelset result and a stiff one. What's not too like.

Well time has shown this rim not to be a great one. Many cracked however of you have cracked the kinlin xr26t has the same overal dimensions and red allowing you to reuse your old spokes.

New thing at The Cycle Clinic

Posted by Malcolm Borg

We have a number of new things in store.

Tifosi CK3's are a great entry to mid level road bike. They come equipped with Shimano Claris, Tiagra, 105 or Campagnolo Veloce. Simply a fine bike for all.

After a while searching I finally have 32H and 36H good freewheel hubs in stock. These are made by Zenith in Taiwan and come in 100mm/126mm or 100/130mm OLD. The 126mm rear hub is suitable for up to 7 speed freewheels but the 130mm spaced hub will take 8 speed freewheel which The Cycle Clinic also stocks. These can be built onto H Plus Son TB14 rims or others here at the shop. See the hub and wheels section of the site for more details.

TT wheels

Posted by Malcolm Borg

TT wheels should be aerodynamic and to hell with all other considerations. They are not meant for high mileage so here is what I have done for my TT bike. I found a U.S distributor with 12H and 16H Shimano Dura Ace 7700 12H hubs. I could use Royce and a few others in this low drilling but Shimano Dura Ace a a bit cheaper. I have laced to them to 88mm deep carbon tubular rims from my usual carbon rim supplier. Sapim CX-ray spokes have been used. Getting the wheels straight is not easy but they are straight (~0.4mm of wobble it the best I could do) with even tension which shows how good the rims are. Weight of the rims is 500g so the complete wheels are not heavy at all.

They are perfect I think and cheaper than buying something of the self from one of the usual factory suspects. No worse in performance either.

Reviews of Genesis bike. It not just me who thinks they are great.

The Genesis Zero 1 is reviewed here. Sums up well what I think. Frames available in store and stock builds too.

Genesis Equilibrium disc 20 reviewed here. The weight of the bike is not a problem I climb quite quickly on bikes of a similar weight. It not a racing bike after all. Otherwise the review seem fair. Frames available in store for custom builds that can be lighter if you want!
