The BORG28 DISC wheelset with a SON Dynamo hub is for long distance riding or commuting. Light or way or charge a device. The rim is a 28mm wide 22.5mm deep wheelset with a rim that has an internal width of 23mm. It is stiff, reliable and can handle the load. There are lighter wheels but these are more reliable for a wider range of riders and bicycle types.

This is a disc brake specific wheelset that is black in colour, tubeless ready and ready for the road or trails. The 32 spoke set is offered only due to the dynamo hub. Lower drilling for the dynamo wheel are not offered due the short flange to flange spacing of dynamo hubs. Hard braking with a large rotor can lead to the left deflecting to the left significantly.
The large flanges minimise spoke tension changes when braking and the triple butted spokes along with the brass nipples and washers ensure the whole wheel is reliable.
Use it on the road or for MTB XC use or gravel or as a touring bike or audax rides. The extra width means a comfortable ride.
Minimum tyre width is 36mm but tyres 40mm to 60mm are ideal.
The rear hub used are BORG Wheels with centrelock rotor mounts.
Freehub bodies for
- Shimano 8/9/10/11/12 speed
- XDR 12 speed driver
- Campagnolo 9/10/11/12 speed freehub
- Campagnolo N3W 13 speed freehub
- Shimano Microspline 12 speed
are available and are interchangeable.
The freehub has 4 independently spring loaded pawls and a 36T ratchet ring. It is advisable to re-grease the freehub mechanism with good grease like Rock n Roll Super Web to keep the hub quiet and to stop water ingress weakening the spring.
They are a large flange design because large flange hub reduces the braking loads on the spokes compared to small flange designs. The front hub has 2x NTN 6902 LLB bearings and the rear hub has 2x NTN 6902 LLB. The freehub body has 1x NTN 6902 LLB and 1x NTN 6802 LLB for shimano and 1x 2x 6803 bearing for Campagnolo, XDR and N3W freehubs . All spares are available.
The rim is 475g (700c) in weight and is 23mm wide internally 28mm external width. It is 22mm deep and is tubeless ready (tubeless rim tape is installed on every wheelset). Normal clinchers can be run of course.
The spoke and nipples are the last trick. Black Sapim Force triple butted 2.0/1.8/2.2mm (at the elbow where it matters) give long service life. The elbow being 2.2mm in diameter has 21% more cross-sectional area than a Sapim race or DT Swiss Competition spokes. What is not to like about that? The nipples used are silver Sapim brass nipples.
So, in short, this wheelset uses all the tricks I know to create a stiff reasonably light but robust wheelset that will give you smiles for miles
